Our story

Why a mobile practice

Paws & Herds started from a simple observation: for many families and farmers, getting an animal to a vet is the hardest part of veterinary care. It can mean time off work, transport costs, or moving animals that are better treated where they live.

So Dr. Colleta brings the vet to them. She visits pets at home, livestock on the farm, and horses and donkeys in the stable — by appointment across Nairobi, Kiambu and Kajiado — with the equipment and medicines each visit needs.

Every visit has two goals: treat what’s in front of her, and leave owners better able to prevent the next problem. That’s why so much of her work is vaccination, parasite control and practical advice on feeding, housing and husbandry.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Nairobi in 2025 and is a member of the Kenya Veterinary Association.

Approach

Five values behind every visit

  • Animal welfare

Calm, low-stress handling — the animal’s comfort comes first.

  • Preventive care

Vaccination, parasite control and good husbandry prevent most problems.

  • Evidence-based practice

Advice and treatment follow current veterinary evidence, not habit.

  • Responsible communication

Clear explanations, honest options and costs agreed before treatment.

  • Farmer education

Practical knowledge you can use between visits, for healthier herds.
